After 12 months

At the last checkup after a year from the surgery, we discussed of options for me, to have another intervention. 

Since I consider the first treatment very successful, I am considering in the near future to fix the receding hairline on the sides. The doctor confirmed that is absolutely possible since my donor area allows another 2-3 interventions.

After 12 months

For now I put these plans on hold, and enjoy the improvement made through the first treatment, that was more not enough. Thanks to Dr. Simon Balázs and the team of HairHungary Clinik and who follow up during this year.

The time to the last checkup in spring went very quickly, and the effects of the transplant were very clear. 

I could notice easily the difference compared to even 3-6 months earlier.

But what really made me feel, that it was worth, it were the comments by my hairdresser and the family, who all mentioned without asking how big a change it made to my hairline.

After 6 months

Towards winter I noticed that the hair in the recipient area started gaining density and the previously balding patch was covered with even layer of new hair. 

What definitely was convincing is seeing friends and family over Christmas. Since they have not seen me for a while they were very quick to notice the change in my appearance, for the good of course. 

After 6 months I went for another checkup. I wanted to ask about the remaining numbness; although the area where I felt it was getting smaller I was a bit worried that it takes so long. The doctor said it was absolutely normal and will take another couple of weeks to completely go back to normal. I also asked about one front side, where the hair was transplanted, that I saw was a little bit uneven. I was assured, that we should wait till one year passes as till then the recipient area will be developing new hair. Only then I was told the final assessment will be made and eventual corrections agreed. All in all half a year after the procedure I feel it was worth it!

During the summer I was cutting my hair short, as the recipient area was only slowly showing the signs of new hair. 

Also I was protecting it for a few weeks from sun, which was a pain I must say in July.

As for the results it seemed like actually there less hair than before the whole procedure! I started noticing more growth only after over 3 months after the surgery. I gained a bit more confidence after talking to the doctor during the regular checkup. Everything seemed to be going just fine (even if I felt it is improving too slowly). All the areas were perfectly healed and the only reminder of the surgery was the numbness of the recipient area.

1 month after the surgery

I started going out with a baseball hat on after the first check up visit, although I continued to work from home for another few days. 

A few weeks after the hair transplant surgery I have just a few unhealed spots on the donor area, here hair is growing back fast. 

On the recipient area 1 month after the surgery I still some redness, also the newly transplanted hair fell off as advised by the doctor. In another month time I hope to see them start growing.

First few days after the surgery...

First few days after the surgery were quite interesting. The surgery took place on Friday and I basically slept through Saturday and Sunday, I blame it on lack of coffee, tea and no option to practice sports.

I started drinking coffee only after a week from surgery, I must say that was one of the toughest challenges, to give up coffee. As for the healing process, the first 2 nights the donor area was bleeding a little bit at night. I was using the spray for the recipient area every 2 hours as prescribed to keep it moisturized.

One week after the hair transplant surgery

I stayed in working from home for 2 weeks in total, in the first week I did no leave my flat as I did not feel comfortable to go with clearly visible scars etc. One more point, I was advised to sleep with 2 pillows, in the semi inclined position for the head to heal faster, that was another point after coffee that was a little bit annoying but manageable.

The surgery

The surgery took the full day, we started at around 7:30 and were done at 17. All started with my hair being shaved off, first time in my adult life I was seeing myself bold, which was funny. 

After explaining the procedure once again the team started with anesthetic injections, some of the more painful than the others and then proceeded with extracting her from donor area. Either due to anesthetics or lack of coffee I slept through half of the procedure.

There was a short break for lunch, I ate quite a lot which put me back to sleep :-) During the procedure there were a few interns observing and at the certain point also replacing the leading doctor, since I was not aware of this set up it made me feel a little bit uncomfortable.

All in all the whole procedure went smooth and was not annoying despite the fact that it took the whole day.
